Puerto Vallarta Family Zip-lining Adventure

The
highlight of our trip to Puerto Vallarta was our family zip-lining adventure with Vallarta Adventures.

Puerto Vallarta was a last minute trip that came together perfectly.   With 2 tween/teen sons and a husband that do not find enjoyment for very long at the pool, finding exciting adventures that can be enjoyed by all is a goal. With some online research, mostly via Trip Advisor, I found that there is more to do in this town than in many of the Mexico towns we’ve visited prior.  The one that stood out the most was the all-day zip-lining tour.  It was also where they filmed one of the episodes of Amazing Race.

Zip-linIng Need to know list:
  • High adrenaline
  • Heights
  • Speed
  • Bring:
    • comfortable shoes (preferably hiking sandals)
    • Wear shorts/tanktop/t-shirt …shorts should not be too short since the harness is around your legs and the position you’re in… fitted mid-thigh shorts /leggings are good.
    • Bathing suit underneath your clothes allows you to disrobe to go down the water slide at the end
    • A change of clothes – there is a shower available afterwards
    • Bug spray & sunscreen maybe for your face.  Most of the adventure is under the canopy of the trees.

Luckily for us, this Vallarta Adventures pick-up for this tour was located in the marina across from our hotel (near the airport).    The ride out to the mountains took a couple of hours in an air-conditioned van. It was a beautiful drive as we passed by beautiful countryside and small towns.  The staff all spoke English and were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Upon arriving, we were given a quick debrief and harnessed up for the extreme zip-lining adventure.  This company is really on top of safety and is no small production.  They really know what they are doing, have great equipment, experienced guides and the adventure is beyond what any of us were expecting.  You cannot take anything with you while on the adventure since if you do it may be lost or damaged. They do have a photographer that comes along with you to capture your experience (and photos are available for purchase at the end-as you can tell with the pictures in this post).

The Adventure Begins

The After a short hike, we were up and flying down our first zipline!   So much fun.   My kids LOVED it and my husband, who happens to be scared of heights, enjoyed it too.  He opted out of a couple of things that were just too much.

More than just zip-lining

At one point we took ATVs to the next point in the adventure.  There is an option to pay for the opportunity to drive the ATV…not worth it…it’s a short distance and it’s better to let them drive since they know the route and will go faster.  There is also an endurance option to do a ropes course… or a short hike. Since the course was quite high, the boys and I did the course… My husband hiked.

There is also the superman that allows you to FLY over the canopy of trees via lying in a contraption face down so you that are looking down seeing the view. It’s quite a distance (200 meters) and you get caught on the other side.  At that point, we were directed down a trail to an indoor skydiving experience.  The final adventure is going down a twisty turns water slide to the bottom!!!  A truck awaits to take us back to camp. Upon arriving adults enjoy some local Tequila tasting and then lunch is served… tacos, chips salsa.  It really was a great family zip-lining adventure in another great Mexico destination of Puerto Vallarta.

Have you zip-lined somewhere?  Would love to hear about your experience.
