The Best 10 Books I listened to in 2017

This post contains affiliate links on images.

These are my favorite books that I listened to in 2017 via referrals of friends, the Overdrive app (free e-books/audiobooks via library card) or Goodreads.  All of different genres. I love listening to stories to/from work and the narrators really make the stories. These are just some suggestions if you are looking for a new book. These are not in any particular order and I only left a comment, not a review. There are links on each image to the book.

The Forgetting Time by Sharon Guskin

An intriguing story of trying to explain the unexplainable actions of a boy thru the search of those who have died too soon.

Nine Women, One Dress by Jane L. Rosen

Just a cute story of the life of a runway dress. I really enjoyed it.

I Let You Go by Claire MacIntosh

Has a twist and kept me in suspense.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

A great historical fiction story from back in  Nazi Germany and how books can feed the soul.

The Color of Our Sky by Amita Trasi

An amazing story of two girls who grew up in India from different castes.  Horrible but beautiful.

Woman of God by James Patterson

Not what I was expecting.  An interesting story of a woman who, thru her life’s challenges and frustrations with God, ends up getting nominated to take the highest position at the Vatican.

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

 Not what I was expecting.

Summer Rental by Mary Kay Andrews

I’m a huge Mary Kay Andrews fan.  I’ve read 5 of her books this year.  Just a great narrator and characters for a light-hearted read.

The life-changing magic of tidying up by Marie Kondo

This is NOT my typical type of book… but I actually enjoyed it and learned some very good tips that I am still using today.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See

A great story of life in China long ago.

Hope you enjoy some of these stories as I have.  If you have any recommendations, please let me know.  I’m always in need of something to listen to on my way to work.    Here’s to books and what they open our eyes up to, how they make us laugh and stir emotions.  This is so odd coming from me…the one who hated reading growing up.

  1. I love listening to books! And appreciate the recommendations. Since I am ready for a light hearted read I am going to try “Nine women, One dress” and a Mary Andrews. Please keep the recommendations coming.

  2. Great list. I would really like to read or more likely listen to Marie Kondo’s “The life changing magic of tidying up”. I’ve heard so much about it.

  3. I was always weird about listening to books because I love to read, but it actually came in handy while I was recovering from my scoliosis surgery. I also love it for road trips.

    1. It took me years to finally get talked into trying audiobooks and believe it or not… it was the Twilight series… and I loved it. I was hooked. It started with books on CD that I would check out from the library and then I tried Audiobooks with the Overdrive app that’s with my library card account and I have them on my phone to listen to anytime and not just in the car.

  5. I commute 1 hour each way to work and need to start listening to audio books. I don’t get to read as much as I would like. Are most of these books free? Some sound right up my alley.

    1. All of them were free. I download all of them via the Overdrive App that is linked to my library card so I can check them out for 3 weeks. It’s such a great way to “read” books. My husband listens to his audio books via his Amazon prime account.

    1. I am really not into these kinds of books, but I really found it helpful. I’ve even taught my sons and there drawers are so much more organized… when they decide to actually put their clothes away. LOL.
